Fined unfairly for metro ticket

Bon soir. We are currently visiting Paris from the United States and purchased tickets at the Hôtel de Ville metro station this morning. We asked specifically for tickets to Versailles Palace. The agent confirmed that the tickets he sold us were for this destination. However, upon our arrival we were confronted and asked to show our tickets. We were told the tickets we were sold were not valid outside of Paris and that we must pay €105. Five other groups were stopped while approximately 100 were not stopped. We explained again and the fine was lowered to €70. I have pictures of the tickets, the receipt for the fine, and a picture of the officer who charged us. We had to pay the fine because he said if we did not, we would be arrested. Please let me know if any of this will help in obtaining a refund. We went back to the station that sold us the tickets but the agent there would not help us and suggested I contact you for a refund. I greatly appreciate your help as we travel internationally often but this event has been very upsetting and if we can resolve it we would love to come back to Paris.
