am I entitled to a refund for a 3 hr delay on Strasbourg - Brussels on 9/6/14

I bought my ticket from SNCF in Strasbourg to travel from Strasbourg to Brussels on 9/6/2014.

The train arrived in Brussels with a 3 hour delay due to a tree blocking the rails.

In addition the air-conditioning of the train was not working and the temperature outside on 09/6/14 was around around 35 degrees Celsius. It was a very inhuman way to travel.

We were made to change trains 3 times, train personnel where giving passengers different instructions. No food or drink were provided as per the EU passenger rights.

Am I entitled to a refund/compensation for the 3 hour delay? lack of assistance - no food and drink provided? and for the problem with the air-conditioning?

Kindly let me know what I should do to make the claim and get a compensation.

Thank you.

Hello Sarah,

If you took the Eurocity 90/91 between Strasbourg and Brussels, this train is not operated by SNCF but by the SNCB in cooperation with the CFF, therefore this is not the SNCF that you should contact to obtain a refund.

However, given that the cause of the delay in not under the operator responsibility (and beyond their control), you probably won't be entitled to any compensation.
