Refund for connecting train ticket due to delay in first train

Dear Sir / Madam,

I hope you are well.

I am writing to you with regards to train tickets I bought for the journey from Cannes to Milan on 29 July 2013. The reference for our tickets are SMUPAE for Cannes to Ventimiglia and SMUPCU for Ventimiglia to Milan.The journey involved me and my family taking a train from Cannes to Ventimiglia followed by a second connecting train from Ventimiglia to Milan.

On the day of our journey, the train from Cannes was delayed by 68 minutes due to bad weather and other reasons. As a result of this, we arrived at the Ventimiglia station 68 minutes late and missed our connecting train from Ventimiglia to Milan.

When we tried to explain the situation to the personnel at the ticketing counter, we were told that we would have to buy new tickets. These tickets cost us €120 in total which we had to pay on top of the previously bought tickets.

We eventually managed to locate an SNCF personnel at the station, and she confirmed that we should be able to get a refund for the tickets we purchased online due to the delay.

I would be very grateful if you could advise me on this matter. I would like to request for a full refund of €120 for the Ventimiglia - Milan journey as I feel it is unfair for us to have to pay the fee twice.
